Virtual Cities january 20, 2010

Dr. Richard Hackathorn and his Avatar..

Over the past decade, we have moved from hand sketches to Photoshop renderings and have become accustomed to including three-dimensional representations of our designs in certain projects. Sometimes we even use three-dimensional animations to present our work. What is the next step for architectural presentations?
Dr. Richard Hackathorn has shown us how other industries are using Second Life for their businesses. Some companies are using the virtual world for training, marketing and even creating real businesses with real revenue. There are a few architectural firms that have started to use Second Life to build three-dimensional models and give their clients tours in the virtual world. Some architectural schools are developing curricula that utilize this virtual world as well.

The virtual world allows you to take your work to the next level. There are opportunities that would be hard to come by through single three-dimensional perspectives or even animations. You can track and record changes in your designs, invite people who normally wouldn’t be exposed to your work to visit your building, and there are many other good things about Second Life.

Does your company have a presence in the virtual world?
