We are all familiar with one or more aspects of the LEED certification system. The YRG Sustainability company knows, in detail, all requirements and prerequisites. LEED is their core competency. YRG Sustainability has had the opportunity to support the USGBC in the development of LEED over the years.
Josh Radoff, a principle at YRG Sustainability, is like many other professionals who know that the performance of a project depends on maintenance and what happens to the project after implementation. Project performance after occupation is one of the hottest topics in the green building world right now. Some of the LEED projects may not perform as advertised. The General Service Administration conducted a study about projects’ projected and actual energy performance, and they found that there is a surprising difference between two. The results of this study captivated attention of the green building world. Taking this study into considerations, YRG Sustainability began to include in every proposal an “after implementation” operations section.
Josh Radoff has been involved in a Songdo City project in South Korea. The project is located on 1,500 acres of reclaimed land along the waterfront. The population density of Songdo City is about the same as that of San Francisco. The project gave developers the opportunity to create a truly sustainable city, which YRG Sustainability identified. Nonetheless, like any other development, it had time constrains and issues with local rules, regulations, and available products. As a result, few LEED certifications were applied to this development. One of them was LEED-ND. Songdo City became one of the pilot projects for LEED-ND.
