LONCO Inc. has been in business for almost 50 years. Over the years, the company has changed ownership but has kept their view of doing business, which is to provide excellent service to clients and stay on top of the technological edge. Thus has helped to keep old clients and develop new business relationships such asCirque du Soleil, international fast food chain restaurants, Denver Botanical Gardens, and the city of Pueblo in Colorado.
The Historic Arkansas River Walk project is located in the lower part of Pueblo where Native Americans tribes use to live, trade, and hunt. Time has changed the look of this area from a Native American neighborhood to one with railroads and now to a hiding river in a culvert and parking lots. In 1996, the city of Pueblo envisioned a new use for the Arkansas River. The vision was to develop a river walk that will stimulate the economy in the area and will help to resolve issues with drainage and water quality, and to create recreational activities on the Arkansas River. LONCO Inc., as an engineering firm, was involved in this project for many years, along with Design Studio West Inc. and a number of other consultants. Mark Hamouz was inspired by the San Antonio River Walk and Museum of Modern Arts in Washington DC. This inspiration led to the creation of tree bridges over Arkansas River with post tension structures and a waterfall at the end of the walk. The waterfall hides a big double barrel concrete box culvert and creates an aesthetic value of the space. At the completion of this project, LONCO Inc. received an Engineering Excellence Award from City of Pueblo. The project tuned out to be a big success for city of Pueblo, And there are future plans for the expansion of the Arkansas River Walk.
