Arina Habich – managing director

Urban Design Podcast was started in the fall of 2009 by Arina Habich. Arina is an urban designer with over a decade of experience in the planning and design field, and saw a need for professionals around the world to share their experiences and learn about each other’s work in a more convenient way. Inspiration for the audible format came from the business and financial news podcasts that are easily available for download from iTunes directly to personal media players.
Urban Design Podcast is about the physical environment of cities. We talk to professionals involved in shaping cities around the world. Projects vary from small to large scale including concepts and ideas for projects that are not yet realized. Now and then, we produce a podcast on a special topic, but for the most part, we talk with professionals just like you who are working on a different range of projects every day that are directly or indirectly influencing our urban environment.
It seems that every day we have less and less time to slow down and read professional magazines and newsletters. We do spend more time traveling and transitioning between places, so we decided to provide information in an audio format. Each podcast episode is about 30 minutes in duration – the average time spent commuting to and from work. New and interesting information can be digested during intermittent daily commuting or waiting periods. We hope that Urban Design Podcast will help you expand your horizons and discover something new and interesting with every podcast.
Originally, the podcast series was conceived for urban planners, architects, and landscape architects, but over the course of these audio broadcasts we’ve been joined by graphic information specialists, artists, developers, planners, marketing representatives, and transportation engineers – all welcome additions!
There are no geographical boundaries for our listeners or participants. We are currently broadcasting to over 140 countries around the world. You can see the geographic footprint of our listening audience on the map below.
A new podcast episode is released for download on iTunes and our website each Wednesday.

Zaira Suarez was born and raised in Puerto Rico. Throughout her adolescence, she was classically trained in music and art. This led to an interest in design, which motivated her to pursue a degree in architecture, with a minor in art, at the University of Miami, Florida.
